During the Fall 2015, I had the chance to work on a small scale public relations campaign/promotion for Samaritan’s Feet at Western Carolina University. Samaritan’s Feet is an organization that raises money to help give shoes to children who cannot afford them, after the founder was given a pair of shoes as a child that helped change his life.
Along with two other public relations students, we organized two events.
The first event was a fundraising event called Pawprints for Purpose, where over the course of two days, students, faculty/staff and even our chancellor had the option to either stamp their feet on a banner (by donating $1) or buy a bracelet (also for $1). This event raised $240.
Those who stamped their feet include our school’s chancellor, staff from the provost’s office, children, some of our school’s football cheerleaders and even some puppies from a local animal shelter.

We also helped run and organize an event that coincided with our school’s Homecoming week called Catamount Walkabout where students came and walked barefoot around our school’s track for a couple hours as a sign of support for children who cannot afford shoes. Over 100 students came out (in 40-degree weather) and walked barefoot for almost three hours
